I no longer feel like the book is scary or has any nail biting, edge-of-your-seat quality. Rereading this book took me back to those years and my younger self. I don't remember much about those days, but I remember being scared and anxious reading this series. ![]() But I never finished the series due to many of my favorite characters dying. I first read The Vampire Prince years ago in middle school when I was obsessed with Darren Shan and his books. To read my review of the other books in this series, use the links below: But the plot isn't complex enough to hold the interest of someone looking for something with some meat to it. So far, I think it's a great series for tweens and young teens. I think the 600 page book would have been a easy 5 star read. I think I would have rather read one book with 600 pages than this and the last two 200 page books in this series with cliffhangers but I don't control that. To be honest, I find myself reading the series primarily to see where things are going to go with this main character. I really like Darren, his character is well written and I find myself very much relating to him. I have to say this installment was 200+ pages of really great reading. ![]() At last a book in this series with a conclusion!!! ![]() ![]() Harley starts to think that life may be worth living after all, while Muddy discovers things about himself that the lads down the rugby club may struggle to understand. In no time at all, they become inseparable. A keen birdwatcher, rugby fanatic and Oasis obsessive, he quickly becomes a devoted and loyal friend to Harley who finds his enthusiasm infectious and his dimples irresistible. Muddy is an ebullient Mancunian whose lust for his own life makes others feel better by association. ![]() Standing in the local woods one day, on the verge of doing something drastic and irreversible, his hand is stayed by a stranger: a tall husky guy who emerges from the bushes holding a pair of binoculars. Returning home to Dartford, having just dropped out of an undergraduate course in music journalism, he is wracked by feelings of failure and inadequacy. ![]() Harley is a young queer Black man struggling to find his way in mid-noughties Britain. Could I one day inspire happiness in others, the same way he seemed to do in me?' ![]() ![]() ![]() Their story is beautiful, heart breaking, funny, sexy, and so very relevant. Their story is not an easy one as a matter of fact it is hard, heartbreaking, and just painful at times. ![]() Because life is complicated they go their separate ways but that one brief encounter forever haunts them. ![]() However, when the bartender lets them know they can't stay any long the two of them have a moment of do I stay or should I go. They have a wonderful conversation that is easy and charged with sexual chemistry. She is watching her favorite team and he is drawn to her like a moth to a flame. Iris and August meet at a bar on possibly the eve of his biggest game ever. ![]() AMAZING narration!! Iris and August have a few things in common 1) they are both huge basketball fans, 2) that they both have troubled pasts that have impact on their lives as adults, and 3) they have this instant connection that can be seen from a mile away. Sean Crisden and Jo Raylan embody everything these characters feel and go through. Kennedy Ryan has this beautiful way of telling a story that you can relate to and just be in that moment with her characters. I am still speechless to what I should be writing for this review. ![]() ![]() ![]() Since I'm just a tad above the targeted age range and the complete opposite of my brother, I can't sing praises for Wild Born without a few (or, I suppose, one really big) reservation(s).įirst off, though: Brandon Mull is excellent at world-building. Rollan, lastly, is my favorite because he is so funny. They're all smart, maybe not like Meilin but, while Meilin is the best fighter which is cool because she's a girl ***, everyone else can fight well in their own awesome way. Abeke was the first to learn how to turn the spirit animal into a tattoo. Conor learned how to use his spirit animal faster than everyone else, which was cool. It is also good because it switches from person to person so I can get more information from different places. ![]() I also really liked the plot because it tells you a lot about the spirit animals world, which is very fascinating**. They each had better spirit animals than other people, which is really interesting because they must be awesome to have such cool spirit animals. The main characters got the Fallen Four spirit animals, which is so cool. Let's have my ten-year-old brother take it away first: Talk about creative! My brother and I've both been big fans of Scholastic's multi-author series, and this one, Spirit Animals, is no exceptions. As for the order of appearance, there is absolutely no significance. In those cases, I just arbitrarily selected the category I felt most appropriate. This is an especially common occurrence for personal stories and memoirs that also focus on an adventure, place, history, culture, etc. I have tried to categorize the various selections, which may have been a mistake as many of these books could logically fall into multiple categories. My choices come from multiple best travel book lists (see below for links), recommendations from other travelers and my personal favorites. You won’t find much in the way of guidebooks, though there are a couple of suggestions which lean in that direction. This list of suggested travel books generally focuses on novels or personal histories that involve travel either directly or indirectly. In the next, much time has passed, with a 17-year-old Adraa, heir to Belwar, once again forced to reckon with her impending marriage to the person she’s been exchanging passive-aggressive letters with for the past 7 years. In this first chapter, Adraa’s stubborn indignance at her betrothal is the source for an entertaining, if a bit sad, inner dialogue, and it sets the tone for the rest of the novel. Rich with descriptions of magic and castles that brought me back to my first years of reading, Adraa’s story reminded me of when I’d find myself adrift in one fantastical setting or another, adventuring alongside wizards or fairies or demigods. Cast In Firelight by Dana Swift opens in front of a towering door of ice, with eight-year-old Adraa and her parents waiting to be let into the home of her future betrothed, the prince of Naupure. ![]() |
